Jose Reyes is one of the most dynamic players in the game of baseball today! If you're a fantasy baseball nut like me, you understand the impact Jose Reyes can have on your fantasy team. Draft a player like Reyes, one who can potentially get you 50-70 stolen bases in a season along with 10-15 HR and a .300 batting average and you can do different things with your team to help secure a championship. The trick is, you need Reyes to stay healthy! So far in 2011, you've most likely gained a profit in terms of fantasy value. Can you say.... CONTRACT YEAR?!!
Despite the problem with the Mets owners, Fred and Jeff Wilpon and the Bernie Madoff scheme they've elidgibly been invloved with, many thought the Mets baseball team would get off to a rough start. Surprisingly, the Mets have been somewhat solid and a lot has to do with the hot play of SS Jose Reyes! How the Wilpons could think of not paying Reyes and either trading him or letting him go at the end of the season is beyond me. I understand the economics and I understand the need to rebuild but if they don't trade Jose, they need to keep him! You can't let him go and get nothing in return! Fans needs to show support for their beloved Jose Reyes! To help, you can get a KEEP JOSE t-shirt here.
Let's look at the numbers. Contract year aside, the Reyes fantasy baseball express is currently hitting .346BA/3HR/25RBI/20SB in 272AB. That's roughly slightly more than 1/3 of the season which means Reyes is potentially on pace for .300+BA/9-12HR/70RBI/55SB in my opinion. That's an MVP type season in real life and a first round/top 5 fantasy baseball season as well. Best part is, Reyes is on fire now as if he's just heating up. He's hitting triples at an alarming rate, finally started stealing bases and just hit 2 of his 3 HR in the last 4 days. His fantasy value is at its highest right now so if your keeper fantasy team stinks, now is the time to trade him and get the most in return. If you're winning, you need to keep Jose and take advantage of the contract year!
